The Fan Tail group is recognized by its metallic cloth fan-type tail in addition to the long silky hair all the birds sport. Each bird also has a painted fan symbol on its breast.

Fan Tails are more difficult to collect in decent condition because the fan frequently becomes tattered or pulls away from its plastic ribs. As a result, they tend to be more sought after by collectors.
